During these 3 days, you’ll travel from the city of Marrakesh to the historic city of Fes, located in the desert. It’s a fantastic chance to go from the snow-capped Atlas Mountains to the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Benhdaou, then on to the magnificent canyons and gorges of Dades and Todra, and finally to the green city of Fes through the Cedar Forest and Ifrane.
We leave Marrakech in the morning and make our way to Ouarzazate, where several well-known films were made, including Alexander the Great, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Kingdom of Heaven, etc. The beauty of the landscape is undeniable. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou is a must-see on our tour of Southern Morocco. Ouarzazate, known as “The Hollywood of Africa,” is where you’ll have lunch. We’re off to the valley of the roses now, where there’s a big celebration every May when the roses are picked. Travel to Dades Valley and stay the night.
We start the day with breakfast and a trip to the Todra Gorges, a popular destination for rock climbers. Later, we’ll keep on, passing a string of walled settlements with impressive architecture along the old Bedouin trade routes that ran parallel to the Middle Atlas. Some of the most scenic drives in the South may be found on the way to Erfoud. The French established the town as an administrative hub amid an arid, red desert landscape. Those looking for black marble with plenty of fossils need go no further. Stoneware such as ashtrays, washbasins, and more are carved to feature fossils in high relief. We go to the magnificent Merzouga dunes, which mark the beginning of the great Sahara Desert. We ditch the car and ride camels into the desert to a Berber outpost. If you want to make your trip really unforgettable, why not try sand dunes boarding in the Sahara? Soon after supper, we all congregate around the fire to listen to the desert night, maybe accompanied by traditional Berber drums.
After waking up to a beautiful dawn and eating breakfast at the camp, you will ride camels to Merzouga and then cross the desert to reach a new region of Morocco. Via the Tizi Ntalghamt Pass and millions of palm palms, we reach Midelt in the green oasis and the beautiful Ziz Gorges cut through volcanic rock. We break for lunch at the tranquil hamlet of Midelt, which is surrounded by the lush splendor of the Middle Atlas Mountains, speckled with brilliant minerals that mottle the slope in a blaze of crimson. From the picturesque ski town of Ifrane and the major handicraft center of Azrou, which specializes in the production of cedar wood, you may go on through the Middle Atlas mountain range with its huge forests of cedar trees, terraced fields, and sienna mud-brick Berber settlements. The journey concludes at the imperial capital of Fez.
