We leave Marrakech in the morning and make our way to Ouarzazate, where several well-known films were made, including Alexander the Great, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Kingdom of Heaven, etc.
The beauty of the landscape is undeniable. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou is a must-see on our tour of Southern Morocco. Ouarzazate, known as “The Hollywood of Africa,” is where you’ll have lunch. We’re off to the valley of the roses now, where there’s a big celebration every May when the roses are picked. Travel to Dades Valley and stay the night.
We start the day with breakfast and a trip to the Todra Gorges, a popular destination for rock climbers. Later, we’ll keep on, passing a string of walled settlements with impressive architecture along the old Bedouin trade routes that ran parallel to the Middle Atlas. Some of the most scenic drives in the South may be found on the way to Erfoud. The French established the town as an administrative hub amid an arid, red desert landscape. Those looking for black marble with plenty of fossils need go no further. Stoneware such as ashtrays, washbasins, and more are carved to feature fossils in high relief. We go to the magnificent Merzouga dunes, which mark the beginning of the great Sahara Desert. We ditch the car and ride camels into the desert to a Berber outpost. If you want to make your trip really unforgettable, why not try sand dunes boarding in the Sahara? Soon after supper, we all congregate around the fire to listen to the desert night, maybe accompanied by traditional Berber drums.
After the breathtaking dawn over the dunes, you will return to camp for breakfast. Afterwards, you’ll return to the place where you’ll meet your driver by camel. You’ll start the day off with a trip to the fossil workshops and a stop in the picturesque town of Rissani. The beautiful Draa valley, home to sweeping palm groves and centuries-old settlements, is the next stop on the journey. You’ll be stopping at Alnif for lunch. After a long trip, you’ve finally made it back to Ouarzazate, where you may spend the night in a hotel or Riad and have a delicious meal.
It is planned that you will begin your day in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” after breakfast. You’ll get to see the real Kasbah of Taourit and the Cinema Atlas Studio where films like The Jewel of the Nile, The Mummy, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Babel, Game of Thrones, and many more were filmed. You may then choose to stop in the Kasbah of Telouat after driving through the beautiful Atlas Mountain scenery. Get into Marrakech in time to see the sunset over the red city.
